Who can take admission in Kendriya Vidyalaya?
Kendriya Vidyalaya gives admission to children of employees under the Central Government, state government, and then to the private sectors. Seats in Kendriya Vidyalaya are divided into five categories which are preference under the following manner –
- The first priority is given to the employees of the Central Government.
- Second priority is to the children of Army and Ex-Army men.
- Third priority is given to State Government employees’ children.
- Fourth priority is given to the single girl child quota.
- Fifth priority is given to private and self-employed persons.
Age criteria for admission
The minimum and maximum age limit for admission in the various class of Kendriya Vidyalaya is as below –

Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission Form For Class 1
Process of admission in Kendriya Vidyalaya for Class 1 is as below:
Reservation of Seat for SC is 15% and for ST is 7.5%. The number of reserved seats for ST and SC will final in accordance with the number of ST/SC children admitted under RTE quota.
- In the first phase, 10 seats in Class-I are to be filled as per RTE Provisions and these 10 seats will be filled by draw of lots from all OBC/ ST/ ST / EWS / BPL (Non-Creamy Layer) applicants.
- In the second phase, remaining seats will be filled as per the existing preferred category method. The shortfall in the seats reserved for SC and ST category, if any shall be made good by admitting SC and ST category applicants.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission For Class 2 to 8
For admission in Class 2 to Class 8 of Kendriya Vidyalaya is done on the basis of the prepared category system. In the case of applicants more than the number of seats, the lottery system is taken place for each category including a single girl child quota for Class VI onwards.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission For Class 9
For admission in KV Class 9, an admission test will be held. Afterward, the merit list will also be published for each category. Admission will be done in the sequence of priority categories in accordance with merit.
- The admission test/exam will consist of 5 subjects respectively Hindi, English, Social Science, Maths, and Science.
- Only one paper of the exam with a time duration of 3 hours and 100 maximum marks where each subject will carry equal marks.
- In order to qualify the exam, candidates have to secure 33% marks on an average. Candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ Divyang category (PH) will be required to secure 25% on average for admission.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Admission For Class 11
Admission in different streams in class 11 of Kendriya Vidyalaya such as Commerce, Science, Humanities will be based on the average marks secured in 10th Class exams:
- For Commerce: Required at least 55% marks on an average in all subjects.
- For Humanities: All successfully declared in 10th Class exam of Kendriya Vidyalaya.
- For Science: Minimum of 60% marks in aggregate of all subjects.
